Core Values

General Expectations

The Round Lake Area Schools Music Program adopts district-wide core values regarding how we conduct ourselves and our relationships with each other, our schools, and our community.
  • Family
    • Friendship: We create friendships with one another. You treat everyone with the same respect the way you would treat a friend. 
    • Acceptance: We put aside differences and personal opinions. We accept one another and treat each other equally. 
    • Caring: We take care of one another. We always love our band even when we are not getting along. 
    • Togetherness: We always work together to achieve our best. We are only as strong as our weakest member.
  • Responsibility
    • Discipline: We are able to keep ourselves on track. We understand we have a responsibility to ourselves and to each other. We have the discipline to maintain a high work ethic when needed. 
    • Teamwork: We are not performing alone. We have a responsibility to work with each other. The product we produce together far outweighs the product we can produce alone. 
    • Respect: We have respect for each other. Without a mutual respect for our fellow ensemble member, we fail our responsibility to the ensemble. Without respect, it is not possible to work in a productive manner and achieve our highest potential. 
    • Proactive: To be proactive means to be able to anticipate any negative problems within the ensemble and have the capability to solve these issues. It is the job of members to be proactive in all sorts of situations for it is their obligation in creating a greater musical environment. 
    • Organization: To be organized means to have a formal structure when working. Organized students can successfully carry out and coordinate difficult tasks if they have a system and structure to achieve these. It is the members’ responsibility to build up good organization skills to help create the best band possible.
  • Attitude
    • Optimism: We all have bad days, but we leave that off the field or stage. We are able to stay positive and maintain an attitude that will create a healthy atmosphere to work in. 
    • Focus: We are able to fully engage ourselves in the activity. A poor or even unenthusiastic attitude will result in a lackluster performance. We are able to achieve energetic attitude that drives our focus. When on or off the field, practice, or performance, ignoring all personal issues and paying full attention to the ensemble and doing your best to make the group better. 
    • Hard Work: We understand that hard work can be fun. A hard working attitude breeds success and with more success comes more fun, which makes us want to work harder.
  • Pride
    • Spirit: We have a contagious amount of spirit for ourselves, our school, and our community. No matter what the outcome we are always proud to be a Panther. 
    • Passion: We love what we do and it shows in every aspect of our activity. Whether it is the final performance of the season or the first stretch of preseason camp, we perform it with passion.
We also follow the JTMMS Cougar Code:
BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE SAFE
​
  • All students and staff will follow the Cougar Code and FRAP values at all times
  • Students will be on time to class
    • Days with instruments - at the instrument storage room by the time the tardy bell rings
    • Days without instruments - in the band room by the time the tardy bell rings
  • NO food, gum, or drinks (besides water in a sealable container) is allowed in the band room at any time unless approved by the director
  • NO personal electronics (mobile phones, gaming systems, etc.) may be used during class at any time unless approved by the director
  • School iPads will be brought to class with enough battery life to last though the class period
    • Charging opportunities may be available, but not at all times
  • Students will not handle anything that does not belong to them without permission from the owner
  • Students will only handle their personal or assigned instrument
    • Only percussionists may handle ANY of the percussion equipment
  • Students will keep their instrument secure in the instrument storage room when not in use
    • Locks must remain locked on their assigned lockers
    • Locker must remain securely closed when an instrument is inside
  • Students may not enter the practice rooms or band office without permission from the director
  • Students may not leave the band room during class without a signed pass from the director or an adult supervisor
  • Students will ensure the band room and instrument storage room are clean before leaving
