SmartMusic a software tool we use to help students learn and assess them. SmartMusic allows students to play into the computer and receive feedback on correct notes and rhythms. SmartMusic can manipulate the music, so students can play with the ensemble recording, with their part, speed it up, slow it down, or isolate just certain sections. Students can practice with it and then submit their best take for a grade.
At the high school, we have 15 laptops available for student use. SmartMusic is free of charge to students. Currently, students have to ask Mr. West access to the laptops, but in the near future, they will be secured in various rooms, so students have access to them throughout the entire day. Students will be given class time to complete SmartMusic assignments, but they will most likely need to come in on their own time as well to finish the assignment.
As mentioned, SmartMusic is free of charge to students. If a student wants, they can purchase a SmartMusic subscription to use at home. The student subscription cost is $40 for a year. You can learn more about the student subscription at www.smartmusic.com. SmartMusic also has various video tutorials to help you learn how to navigate the program.
In class, students can use the Getting Started with SmartMusic to help them create a student login and begin playing with SmartMusic.
