IS there a fee for the workshop?
No cost! We will provide lunch. Dinner will be on your own.
What do we wear?
We ask that you treat this as any other professional development event and wear professional attire. If you are one of the conductors, do dress in something that you will be able to comfortably conduct in.
Will I be able to conduct an ensemble?
On the registration form you will be able to select if you wish to conduct an ensemble. Conductors will be chosen on a first come first serve basis as well as by seniority. Right now we are planning on three conductors per ensemble. We also have a percussion ensemble and jazz band that selected participants will be able to work with. We are still formulating how to structure that time to be the most benefit the workshop attendees.
If i am able to conduct, what will I be conducting?
We will be emailing the conducting participants as soon as all of the slots are filled. We will make scores available to you digitally. Most of the repertoire is going to be standard literature that you will already be familiar with. We will be in the middle of a concert cycle, so there will be plenty of aspects that you will be able to rehearse.
What are the ensembles like that we will be able to conduct?
There three wind bands that will be used for the workshop:
Symphonic Band
-Top ensemble comprised mostly of juniors and seniors
-Balanced instrumentation; approximately 30 winds
Concert Band
-Intermediate ensemble comprised mostly of sophomore and juniors
-Very close to balanced instrumentation
-Smaller numbers than Symphonic Band; approximately 20 winds
Beginning Band
-Freshman ensemble including a few beginners
-Non-balanced instrumentation (7 flutes, 1 oboe, 4 clarinets, 6 alto saxophones, 1 tenor saxophone, 3 french horns, 6 trumpets, 1 tuba)
Our percussion ensemble and our second jazz band will be used for the workshop, but we are still structuring how those ensembles will be implemented.
