Attendance Expectation
All band students are REQUIRED to be at this event. Not only is it a wonderful opportunity to learn from a variety of music teachers from the area, but it is also what we have been working towards in our rehearsals since the beginning of this semester. The All District Band Festival is equivalent to the final exam for this unit in band class. This date has been posted in the calendar that was handed out in the beginning of the school year. The expectation is that the performance dates (including the All District Band Festival) would be marked in family calendars and other events would be scheduled around them as much as possible.
That being said, it is understood that unavoidable circumstances do arise. If a student has an unavoidable conflict that cannot be rescheduled, your director must have a physical note signed by both the student and a parent/guardian explaining the reason for missing the performance by Friday, March 6th. If the reason is approved by your director, it will be considered an excused absence and an alternate assignment will be given.
If an emergency arises (serious illness, accident, death in the family), please make every effort to contact your director in some manner (email, Remind, etc.) with a brief explanation of the situation, so that they are not searching for the student at the performance. In addition, a physical note signed by the student and a parent/guardian must be given to your director the first day the student is back in school after the performance.
All absences that do not meet the above requirements will be considered an unexcused absence and result in a grade of 0 for the performance that cannot be made up.
Behavioral Expectations
Students will be assigned to a homeroom that they will leave their belongings and instrument cases in during the days’ activities. The classroom will be locked when not in use but students should not bring expensive items such as gaming devices. Any lost or stolen items are the responsibility of the student.
It is very important that we treat the Round Lake High School facilities with respect as these rooms belong to teachers who are generously allowing us to use their space. There is absolutely no food or drink besides water allowed inside the homerooms. If you bring a snack with you, you must eat it in the hallway or cafeteria, throwing away your garbage in the appropriate containers. All messes must be cleaned up and the homeroom should be left better than it was found at the beginning of the day.
Students should conduct themselves appropriately during the entire day. During instructional time with our guest teachers, students should not talk out of turn and all cell phones should be out of sight. This is a great opportunity to learn from teachers with different experiences and they should be given the utmost respect for giving us their time and energy on a Saturday. There is absolutely no running or yelling within the school and students should follow all instructions given to them by directors, parent volunteers, or high school leadership. Failure to comply with these expectations may result in the student being removed early from the event and not participating in the concert.
